Today is my 11th birthday! I had a big surprise this morning – after I had opened my presents from family and friends my mum handed me another parcel. I couldn’t believe it when I opened it up – it was a card and some fab merchandise from Virgin Trains. The card said there would be another surprise to come – how exciting!
I went to Birmingham New Street for the day for my birthday treat. My parents took me train spotting, we bought a Midland Day Rover (these are great value for money as you can travel anywhere within a certain area but we found you can’t travel to Rugby on this ticket). We even rode on the pods at Birmingham International! I travelled to Coventry and Rugby on a Virgin train (Class 390) and came back from Rugby on a London Midland train (now known as West Midlands Railways). Even better than that a friendly Virgin Trains driver – at Birmingham New Street – invited me to go inside a train cab and I was allowed to blow the horn. My first ever experience of going inside a real train cab.
